Germany's "Generation Riesling" attend Vinexpo 2011

Germany's young, modern winemakers will attend Vinexpo for the first time this June. This year at Vinexpo, Riesling and Pinot Noir will be among the attractions at the German Wine Institute's stand (Hall 1, BD 330).

Hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the German Wine Institute will be hosting a series of tastings in their booth, joined by German Wine Queen Mandy Großgarten, who will be among the various bi-lingual German wine experts serving and commenting on a range of top wines throughout the fair. There will also be daily 30 minute seminars held at the German wine booth at the following times:

Sunday, June 19th,          15:00 Noble sweet German wines

Monday, June, 20th,        15:00 Festival of Flavours

Tuesday, June, 21st,       11:00 German Pinot Noir

Wednesday, June, 22nd   11:00 Big Dry Whites

There will be a particular focus on wines from the young and innovative generation of German winemakers, often referred to as ‘Generation Riesling’. In total, around 20 German exhibitors will present their wines inside the 400-square-metre pavilion – a great selection of both large and small producers from almost all of the 13 wine- growing regions of Germany.

Steffen Schindler, the German Wine Institute’s marketing director, is looking forward to a busy five days in Bordeaux: “Given worldwide increased interest in Riesling and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) from German wine-growing regions, we expect many trade visitors from Europe and Overseas at the German pavilion in Bordeaux. Our focus will be on innovation and high quality, as well as the drier styles of German wine. In addition, modern culinary trends worldwide favour lighter styles and more aromatic white wines – just what we have been producing in Germany for centuries, so the German booth should again be a very popular stop for international sommeliers.”
