02-05-2023

Two months before the start of the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) 10th international symposium, 500 wine professionals and enthusiasts from almost 40 countries have confirmed their participation.

The sold-out event will take place from the 29 June – 2 July 2023 in Wiesbaden, Germany. Julian Gore-Booth, IMW executive director, said: "We are pleased about the great interest from the entire wine world in this year's symposium, which was sold out very early." In addition to over 100 Masters of Wine, many other well-known figures from the international wine world are among the guests. There will be exciting lectures from over 30 speakers, including prominent personalities such as Hollywood star and winery owner John Malkovich and fourth generation Argentine vintner Laura Catena.

“The IMW symposium is a unique opportunity to present the wine-country Germany to so many important multipliers from all over the world”, explained Monika Reule, managing director of the German Wine Institute (DWI).

Alongside the IMW, the hosts are the DWI, the city of Wiesbaden and the Federal State of Hesse. Following a successful bid process, this hallmark event has been brought to Germany for the first time.

Valuable support from sponsoring partners

After the intensive tastings, presentations and debates, wine culinary dinners are on the programme for the experts. The final gala evening is organized by the DWI together with the regional wine promotion boards in Biebrich Castle. Zwiesel Glas, the sparkling wine producers Raumland and Schloss Vaux, Original Selters mineral water, Radeberger and the coffee roasting company Müller support the enjoyable evening as additional sponsors.

Furthermore, the symposium organisers have received invaluable support and sponsorship from many renowned brands and organisations in the industry, highlighting a global mission to promote excellence and innovation in the world of wine.

Excursions to the German wine regions

In the run-up to and after the end of the symposium, numerous participants will take the opportunity to get to know the terroirs of the German wine landscapes with their wines and local producers on six different trips. In doing so, they are responding to the invitations of the regional wine promotion boards in the wine-growing regions of Ahr, Franken, Mittelrhein, Mosel, Nahe, Pfalz, Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Sachsen.
