"Federweißen" -vintage 2014 starts in Germany

Friday, August 8th 2014, first grapes of the variety "Solaris" are being harvested in Westhofen located in the wine growing region of Rheinhessen. Branch experts expected an early start into the vintage due to vine's extraordinary early blooming this spring. It takes another 90-100 days for grapes to ripen thereafter.

This year's "Federweißen"-vintage-start in Germany is the earliest since 2007 and 2011. Normally, "Federweißen" vintage does not commence before mid August. Last year (2013) it was August 28th.
